Purpose of a BLog in a Classroom?
My content is physical education, it is a little bit different than other classes. Some people feel that physical education is just about running around playing games. Well that is not true, these students are developing gross motor skills, incorporating math, science, other classes into our activities. They are also learning how to follow directions, and work together cooperatively. But the main objective is to get these students involved in some sort of physical activity that they can use in their life outside of physical education class. lately we have been getting ready for the Fitnessgram, it assesses pushups, situps, pacer etc. By creating a Blog students can talk about various ways they have been trying to implemente physical activity in their lives outside of class. Students can talk about skills they are doing to become better in basketball during our unit or just talking about getting together to play a game. A blog gets students talking about that subject, since students these days use alot of technology. I believe students can also comment on how you can make your lesson better as en educator. I give out exit slips and surveys frequently to my students so i can read their feedback on how i can be a better educator. My grade level is k-8 physical education.

Your idea for having students post how physical activity is a part of their out of school lives is great. It will allow you to monitor just how much physical acitivity they are getting (or saying so, anyway!). This would also be a way for you to respond to them for additional idea to help them in a certain skill area or just to keep them moving. I think it would be motivating to the students to be able to interact with their PE teacher via blog. A challenge I see with this is that it is so hard to get kids active today and so hard to get them away from computers, video games, and other technology at times that hopefully this would not steer them away from being physical. Maybe setting a limit on how many posts per week are allowed will make them see that blogging is a way to increase physical fitness through discussion - not an excuse to go on the computer and not be active.
ReplyDeletePE is particularly motivating for students because of the entertainment factor that entices them to not only get involved in each sport, but also they are used to watching them on television. Students are ready and willing to discuss the benefits they experience from engaging in these activities because they are physically rewarding. Each day a student goes home, they may desire to communicate the distinct details that may stand out in there mind about each activity the had gotten involved in during that current day of physical education class. Sometimes students may have difficulties expressing their opinions about certain content, but I think they would naturally more motivated to share with others their insights on physical education.
ReplyDeleteThe great thing about teaching P.E with younger kids is they absolutely love participating and they love you. Some students do have a tough time expressing themselves, that's why i see blogs would be great for those students to share their thoughts.
